“In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: It Goes On”
- Robert Frost
Mariners usually work on a ship for a few months, and then ‘sign-off', and join again after a few months leave at home.
I feel this is like the lives we lead. We are here on earth to do our part. We may feel at times, that we’re here forever, and we can do whatever it takes to advance our own agenda. But one day it ends. A seaman goes home once he’s served out his contract. But the ship keeps sailing, and life goes on.
The questions we must ask ourselves, whether it is a ship we work on, or during our lives include:
- Am I going to leave it better than how I found it?
- Am I creating value for my place and the people around me?
- Am I passionate about a cause larger than myself?
- Have I taken care of those who depend on me?
- Do I deserve another chance?
